I HIGHLY recommend 3ds max 2008 if u have the resources. I have used 3ds max for 3 years and i have loved every minute ive used it. I personally hate blender though.
first use 3dsmax
then study maya
Maya is pretty much the industry standard. If you can master Maya you should have no problem getting a job in movies.
Try them all and find out which one you are comfortable with.
Bryce and Vue have no or limited character animation functionality so you can use them mainly for environments.
Maya is used industry, as well as for computer and video games.
Max Primarily for games.
Lightwave. Is getting very popular but not the standard- I am a Expert at lightwave an honestly the jobs are few and far apart

Learn Max if you want to get into video games learn maya to be in the film and TV industry
