Learning Autocad: Tracing Paper Drawings Fast

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Ever wanted to import paper drawings into AutoCAD? For designers, and observations have a large number of drawings on paper, using the following set of technologies can save time.
The first step in the importation of paper is scanned drawings in AutoCAD drawing. If the scanner is not large enough to scan a large drawing, you may find a local printer with a flatbed scanner you can use. The ten to twenty dollars to spend to get a drawing scanned, will save tens of hours. Make sure the drawing file scanned at 300dpi to 100dpi. For most applications, 100dpi is the best option, because the files are smaller.
When the drawing is scanned, copy the file to your computer. To launch any version of AutoCAD version 2000. On the Insert menu, select Picture. You can search the raster image in AutoCAD help files for a list of all commands you can use to work with scanned images.
Insert the bitmap image at 0,0,0 and accept the default scale. This will insert a miniature version of the scanned image in your drawing. At the command prompt, type scale. Select the image you just presented. Enter 0,0,0 as a basis for scale. This stops the lower left corner of the drawing of the move.
Type-R to indicate you want to specify a reference distance. Then gently click two points represents a known distance. This could be the end of a line or large circle. When prompted, enter the actual distance between two points.
This scale drawing at actual size. You can now use standard drawing, editing and layers of command to trace the drawing. In most versions of AutoCAD, from the Format menu, select Draw to send an article to the front or rear. This makes it easy to keep the scanned image, behind or below, all other objects on the screen.
Most versions of AutoCAD has a command called WIPEOUT that lets you hide the imperfections of a drawing. Use this option if you want to hide part of a drawing scanning, so you can call the new geometry of it. Then you can draw your picture and see the image and the geometry of its new all displayed on the page itself. This is a quick and dirty way to check a drawing scanned.
Importing scanned images in the drawings is useful for inserting logos, images and tables made to your drawings too. You can always use the scale command to make the image fit the drawing file is inserted.
Take time to experiment with the instruments mentioned in this article. You'll find step by step instructions to insert and scale images to the drawings, visit www. support. com. Simply search for scanned drawings to see the relevant tutorials for all versions.
