Making a sword in Blender 3D and I’m using a background image as a model. How can the texture of my image object in the background?

Step by step instructions:
Go to the editing panel (F9), add a new UV Texture, go into edit mode (Tab), press U and select unwrap from view, go to the shading panel (F5), add a material, go to the texture buttons (F6), add a texture, select image for the texture type, select your image you wish to use, go back to the material buttons, under the Map Input tab select UV.
I believe that should do it!
